There is a new article on the main site, entitled How To Learn Acoustic Guitar. It gives details of the main things that anyone considering taking up the acoustic guitar will need to think about as they start.

I’ve now published section 3 of the Guitar Training Directory – this section lists guitar learning aids, such as metronomes, jam track software, ear training materials and just about everything else guitar-related that doesn’t fit into the first two categories (which cover general and specialised guitar lessons).

Although all three sections are now up, I do have a bunch of updates to make, as I’ve uncovered many new guitar learning programs since originally publishing the first two sections. I’ll be adding these as soon as possible, and will be continually updating the directory with new learning-related resources each month as I become aware of them.

I hope everyone has had fun over the holiday period! It was nice to have a break, but it’s just as nice ot be back at work on the site, and I’ll be rolling out lots of new content on NetGuitarist in 2010. This will include a major new section focusing on reviews of guitars and guitar-related products, as well as a series of in-depth informational articles covering various aspects of guitar technique. Also coming up is an extensive guide to the best guitar-related resources on the web, including forums, guitar music sites and more. We’ll also be profiling prominent guitarists, exploring other aspects of being a great guitarist beyond guitar technique (such as aural skills, improvisational skills, music theory knowledge etc), and much more besides.

So stay tuned, and get practising to make 2010 your best year ever as a guitarist!

Following on from my previous post about the updates to the Jamorama guitar course, the new version goes live later today (14 December). It’s available in two formats:

Jamorama Standard – teaches you to play rhythm guitar (chords, strumming) to an intermediate standard, starting from scratch. This is a good choice for those who just want to dip a toe in the water, or who want to learn chords and strumming so they can accompany themselves or others, but aren’t interested in learning lead guitar. Click for more info about Jamorama Standard

Jamorama Deluxe – includes the same rhythm guitar material as Jamorama Standard, but also builds on this further to teach lead guitar (soloing) techniques. The Deluxe version is the best choice for those who want to learn all the techniques necessary for playing their favourite songs and riffs, and to develop great ‘all-rounder’ guitar skills and be as versatile as possible. As before, you can also sign up for some free Jamorama lessons, to get a taste of what the materials are like before buying – find out more here.

I’ve created an in-depth Jamorama review for this site, as it’s a guitar lessons course I’ve used myself and am happy to recommend to others. Up until now, there are have been three Jamorama products – Jamorama (a rhythm guitar course for beginners), Jamorama Lead (which follows on from the previous course, and teaches lead techniques), and Jamorama Acoustic, which is similar to the main Jamorama course, but with a focus on acoustic guitar playing.

Starting this week (early December), the Jamorama team are rolling out some significant changes to the course. Jamorama Lead and Jamorama Acoustic will no longer be available; instead the material from those courses has been incorporated into the main Jamorama program. This in turn will be available in two editions; Jamorama Standard (which will cost about $49, rather than the current $39.95), and Jamorama Deluxe, and the member’s area has been redesigned accordingly. I’m not sure exactly when the changeover happens – probably later this week (it’s 8 December now).

All existing Jamorama customers are automatically being given access to Jamorama Deluxe. I’ve only had a quick look so far, but it looks like the basic instruction material remains the same, as do the bonuses. But I’ll be going through all of the materials again, and making any necessary changes to my Jamorama review. In the meantime, if you’re on the fence about buying Jamorama, today is a good time to get it, before the price increases!

Jamorama is one product that I like to promote on this site, because I’ve used it myself and am very impressed with what it has to offer. So if you’re looking for a high quality online guitar course, check out my Jamorama section for an in-depth review, which I’ve tried to make as unbiased as possible.

I’ve also just added a couple of new Jamorama-related articles which may be of interest to those who have bought the course, or are considering it:

Section 2 of the Guitar Training Directory has now been published – the courses listed in this section focus on how to play specific musical styles (such as blues), specific guitar types (such as acoustic guitar), and particular guitar techniques (such as speed picking). You can see the full list here – http://www.netguitarist.com/guitar-training-directory-section-2-specific-styles-techniques/

The third and final section, covering guitar learning aids and other materials that don’t fit into the other categories, will be ready soon.

NetGuitarist’s Guitar Training Directory aims to provide a comprehensive list of the guitar lessons and other training resources that you can find on the internet. It’s divided into three sections: the first is a list of general guitar lesson courses; the second lists training materials that focus on specific techniques and musical styles (such as blues guitar, or fast shredding), and the third lists other types of learning aid (such as tools that help you learn to read music, metronomes etc). While it’ll be difficult to include every single resource out there – the net is a big place after all – I’ll list as many as I can find, and the directory will be updated periodically.

So far, section one (general guitar lesson courses) has been published. Sections two and three will be available soon.
